A NOTE FROM THE ARTIST

Perfection: The condition, state, or quality of being free or as free as possible from all flaws or defects. 

Sit with that for a minute……… free of all flaws and defects……….

But what about the scar on my right cheek that I got when I was five and was excitedly running home with my shoes put on improperly because I didn’t want to waste time and just see my family? What about that time I succumbed to peer pressure and stole a lip smacker from Shoppers Drug mart and got caught? What about all those times I applied to galleries and art fairs only to receive yet another rejection letter? 

All these nicks and scratches, moments, and lessons I have learned are what make up who you see in front of you today. I have made mistakes. I have broken hearts. I have been hurt both emotionally and physically and have the scars to show for it. 

Free from all flaws and defects….. What’s the fun in that????

Just like the rough edges and bumps of this piece, I am not perfect. Nobody is.

I have a story filled with triumphs and failures, moments of despair and a body that could always use some tweaking. But so does everybody else. 

Nobody is perfect. So stop striving for this unattainable goal and focus on how all your bumps and bruises make you spectacularly you and then go show it to the world!
