A NOTE FROM THE ARTIST

When I apply cackle medium to any painting, I have to give in to the process. There is a relinquishment of control that happens as the product acts on its own accord. Depending on the weather and heat of the room, the thickness of the application, and the mixing of other products, each painting takes on a life of its own and over a week (or so) it unfolds organically in front of my eyes, just how it was meant to be. Each piece is uniquely it’s own, never to be recreated again.

This artwork made me think of each of us, how we are a combination of a million little miracles that had to go right in order for us to just exist. Sometimes we forget the magic that had to happen for us to even be here. We are so quick to point out the things we don’t like about ourselves and often forget to revel in the fact that each of us are made up of a million wonderful, uniquely perfect parts. 

We often think that the qualities that set us apart are our burden, but what I have come to understand is that it’s actually what makes us great.
